Shene Estate Distillery

Home to award winning Poltergeist Gin

This former hayshed was transformed into a fully functional distillery now known as the Shene Estate Distillery.

Located at a farm in Pontville, Tasmania, Shene Estate was first built by owner and head distiller David Kernke’s father in the 1960’s. The building still has elements of old Australian architecture in its design.

Shene Estate Distillery is known for its award-winning Poltergeist Gin, which is triple-distilled and made in small batches using 12 botanicals in a 300-litre copper pot. These include the likes of juniper berries, liquorice root, dried lemon peel, and Tasmanian pepper berries. It has a clean flavour with hints of spice and a dry finish.

Poltergeist Gin has two types: Unfiltered and A True Spirit. The latter is filtered through a coconut shell carbon-made tube for that smooth texture. Meanwhile, Unfiltered has a thicker mouthfeel.

Aside from making high-quality gins, Shene Estate also offers tours of their distillery where you can do tastings. You can visit the Road Side Stall & Tasting House as well where you can drink hot Poltergeist Gin punch while taking in the view of the Gothic Revival stable.

For group gatherings, you can book a picnic at Shene Estate featuring dishes from Frank Restaurant and Bar and of course, glasses of Poltergeist Gin.
