Notoriously known for its whisky, Tasmanian gin is fast becoming the gin capital of Australia. From small to larger pockets – distillers around Tasmania are trying their hand at producing gin. It makes sense. Given whisky takes time to mature, gin provides distillers with a quicker cash-flow and the opportunity for glorious produce year-round.
Tucked away over the Bass Strait, Tasmania has good, wholesome clean air, water and rich soils. This makes for bold and flavoursome botanicals which are now being used in Tasmanian gins.
A common element you’ll find unique to Tassie gin is the pepperberry. Other botanicals include wattleseed, lemon myrtle and anise myrtle. True to seasons, many distilleries in Tasmania also offer seasonal gin such as orange blossom and saffron. So it doesn’t matter what time of year you visit, you’re sure to find something new to enhance your juniper-loving palate.
Capturing the pristine conditions that make for world-class gin production throughout Tassie, why not start your gin-adventure in the heart of Hobart?
