Big Tree Distillery is the result of a gin-loving husband and wife team who love good gin so much we decided to make our own!
What do you get when a married couple starts a distillery? You get gins made with love and great attention.
Big Tree Distillery, owned by Catherine Crothers and husband Gary Jago, is situated in Jack’s Springs Farm on the Macedon Ranges. It’s known for producing small batches of craft gin using ingredients and botanicals that are grown on the farm ground.
The gin options range from dry to gin that packs a fruity punch. For something traditional, there’s the award-winning Elegant Dry Gin which is made with rainwater from the farm and has notes of juniper and citrus. This is perfect for making your favourite gin and tonics.
Since Big Tree is on a farm, they use seasonal fruits to use for their products. You can try Big Tree’s version of pink gin in the form of Rhubarb Gin. The rhubarb gives the spirit its beautiful colour and signature sweetness. Big Tree also has a limited-edition red gin called Sloe Berry Gin which infuses Tasmanian sloe fruit in dry gin for a deliciously tart flavour. For a citrusy spirit, there’s the Cumquat Infused Seasonal Gin, made with freshly harvested kumquats.
Each spirit is poured into bottles designed by local painter Sarah Gabriel, which you can collect and keep for a long time.
